Corporations Aren't People

 One of the things that people fail to realize is that corporations are not people. It seems like it should be obvious, but even the US Supreme Court has failed to recognize the difference. Another misconception is that corporations exist to provide jobs for people. This is also false. Corporations usually benefit from having fewer employees. Corporations lack even the most basic form of empathy. They exist for the single purpose of generating profit for their "shareholders". These "shareholders" consist of mindless computer algorithms focusing almost exclusively on quarterly profits. The corporation's top executives are not actually in control of them. The fact that some humans end up insanely wealthy is simply a side effect of the system. People do not control the corporations. The opposite is true. Corporations control people all the way up to the top executives.

I love Youtube because you can talk back to people by making comments. Here are some of my recent comments.

Harris does not support illegal immigration. Seeking asylum is not illegal. Congress worked out an immigration bill and Trump killed it for the sole reason he needed a talking point for his campaign. Immigrants tend to be highly educated, hard-working, and willing to do jobs others won't do. Shapiro shows his prejudice when he implies immigrants are lazy, drawing on benefits, and a drag on the system. Farmers need people who are willing to work on the farm. Food processing plants need people willing to work at the plant. Immigrants are not stealing the jobs of nonimmigrants. They are fulfilling a demand of the country.

The anti-DEI movement assumes that there is no longer any prejudice and discrimination that needs to be addressed. Are candidates selected because of their abilities or because they will "fit in" with the rest of the white men in the organization? DEI trains people about prejudices that they may not even be aware of because of their cultural background. Some people have been raised racist, sexist, anti-trans, or homophobic. They may not realize the comments they make are hurtful to certain people. Studies have shown that certain populations of students need additional resources to be successful. In some cases, this could be due to cultural backgrounds. First-generation college students are disadvantaged compared to people whose parents have attended college. Eliminating DEI programs hurts the most vulnerable populations in our communities.

Most economists believe tariffs will be passed on directly to consumers resulting in inflation.

Looking at tariff history tells a different story from what Trump claims. The Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act is believed to be one of the causes of the great depression of 1929.

So Trump isn't to blame for a worldwide pandemic but somehow Biden is to blame for worldwide inflation?

 Any capitalist society will eventually become a corporate oligarchy, because it is in a corporation's best interest to control the government, and a relatively small investment in an election can result in an enormous roi for the corporations. Corporations do not have empathy so they don't care what happens to the planet or society. The fact that a small percentage of humans get extremely wealthy is merely a side effect.

Can't Pass a Bill? Amend the Constitution!

 

The Wisconsin state legislature can't overcome the governor's veto so they have figured out a workaround for passing partisan laws. Make it part of the state constitution. It turns out if you both houses of the state legislature pass an amendment over two consecutive sessions, they can put it out as a referendum. If the referendum passes the new law becomes part of the state constitution. The trick is to put it up for referendum during an election with a low turnout, especially one where their side is more likely to vote.

A Key Difference Between Republicans and Democrats

Robert Reich made an interesting observation about a key difference between Democrats and Republicans. When Trump says something crazy or does something illegal Republicans and right-wing media like Fox News jump to his defense supporting him and surrounding him with a wall of spin. When Biden, or any other Democrat for that matter, says or does something off, other Democrats and the media tear them down rather than defend them. Is this a problem with the Democrats? No, this is a problem with the Republicans. In a democracy, political parties should be cleaning their own house so to speak.

How Will American Democracy End?

How will American democracy end? American capitalism is based on a system where corporations are given authority over people. A small group of people benefit greatly from this system and become millionaires and billionaires. They can invest a small fraction of their money to elect candidates who benefit corporations and the wealthy by giving them huge tax breaks. The ROI is huge. The problem is corporations are designed not to have empathy. They are legally mandated to only care about one thing; profit. In spite of this they are now considered legal persons.

One of the major problems the United States will face in the coming decades will be the deficit. The only realistic way to eliminate the deficit is to raise taxes. Republicans refuse to do this repeating the lie of Laffer economics. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laffer_curve It runs out the Laffer curve only kicks in around 70% tax rate. Once the lending rating drops the debt will spiral out of control which will probably lead to hyperinflation and a downward spiral of more and more extreme leaders. And that’s it.

The Ten Commandments

Louisiana just passed a law requiring all public school classrooms to display the Ten Commandments because they claim they are the foundational documents of our state and national government. If that's the case why are there only two of the ten related to our current laws: (6) Thou shalt not murder and (8) thou shalt not steal. All of the others are not closely related to current laws and most are extremely religious in nature. Searching the internet turns up many different versions of the Ten Commandments. I decided to go with my father's bible which claims to be an authorized King James version.

Commandment I

(Exodus 20:2) I am the Lord thy God which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

(Exodus 20:3) Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

This one basically states that you can't be of any other religion. This violates the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States which prohibits the government from establishing a religion.

Commandment II

(Exodus 20:4) Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

(Exodus 20:5) Thou shalt not bow down to thyself to them, nor serve them: For I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

(Exodus 20:6) And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

These seems to forbid making images like taking photographs, drawing, painting, making statues, or any other likeness. Almost everyone violates this today.

Some people believe this refers to bowing to a false prophet. Like Trump's followers worship him.

Commandment III

(Exodus 20:7) Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

Don't swear using God's name. Many people do this. It's not considered a crime.

Commandment IV

(Exodus 20:8) Remember the sabbath day to keep it holy.

(Exodus 20:9) Six days shalt thou labour and do all thy work: 

(Exodus 20:10) But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor that stranger that is within thy gates:

(Exodus 20:11) For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

This one is more of an organized labor agreement than a government statute.

Commandment V

(Exodus 20:12) Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

You should honor your parents and the elderly. This a good commandment. It is not enshrined in law other than the Social Security system and Medicare both of which are under attack by Republicans.

Commandment VI

(Exodus 20:13) Thou shalt not kill.

This one is the first commandment that is actually a law with the assumption that it refers to murder. Because it is generally not considered a crime to kill an opposing combatant in a combat situation. Although I don't notice any exceptions here.

Commandment VII

(Exodus 20:14) Thou shalt not commit adultery.

This is not typically illegal although I have heard it may be illegal in certain states. It may not be a good idea but it is pretty commonly practiced by many without legal consequences other than grounds for a divorce.

Commandment VIII

(Exodus 20:15) Thou shalt not steal.

This idea forms the basis of many laws. But this is really only the second commandment that is related to the justice system.

Commandment IX

(Exodus 20:16) Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

Don't lie. A good philosophy, but his is usually not illegal unless you are testifying under oath.

Commandment X

(Exodus 20:17) Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, though shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

This is the tenth that says you should not be jealous of your neighbor which has no basis in law. I will comment that in some translations the terms manservant and maidservant are translated as slaves. Slavery is immoral and illegal.

Voter Fraud

It seems like Republicans are always complaining about voter fraud. Guess what? We finally figured out who has been committing all the voter fraud. Republicans!

Trump allies have recently been charged with a fake elector scheme taking voter fraud up to the electoral college level. So far five states are charging the fake electors with felonies. Trump hatched this scheme during the 2020 election when he saw that he had lost to Joe Biden by a landslide. The election was not even close and Trump started claiming voter fraud while at the same time planning to commit voter fraud on a grand scale. Trump called Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to try to get him to commit voter fraud. Trump said, "I just want to find 11,780 votes." Raffensperger refused.

So why hasn’t Trump been charged for this? He has! But guess what? Trump’s legal team has set out to discredit the DA brave enough to bring charges against the former president. Now the case will probably be paused until after the election.

If Trump wins he has already stated he will seek retribution. Who will be on the list?

• Atlanta DA Fani Willis – for bringing charges against him
• Hillary Clinton - just because
• Joe Biden - for having the audacity of defeating him in an election
• Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg – for charging him with felony falsifying business records, of which he was found guilty
• Judge Juan Merchan – the judge in the felony case, for sentencing Trump to whatever the sentence was
• Judge Arthur Engoron of New York – for finding Trump’s company guilty of fraud to the tune of $354 million.
• New York AG Letitia James – for bringing the fraud case against Trump
• James Comey – who is according to Trump just evil
• All the other AGs who are bringing charges against Trump allies
• Anyone who is a liberal because they are liberals
• Anyone who associates with liberals
• Any Republicans who Trump believes turned against him such as Liz Cheney and Brad Raffensperger.

Perhaps the biggest voter fraud of all is the voter suppression tactics implemented by Republicans which have brought voter turnout down to 66%. These include voter ID requirements and restricting access to voting in metropolitan districts. These laws are not intended to prevent voter fraud but to prevent legitimate voters from voting.

OK, so at this point Trump has not stated that he won't seek revenge in fact he has stated that there are a lot of bad, sick people doing destructive things. I assume he means the district attorneys, judges, prosecutors, and witnesses who brought him to trial and found him guilty. He probably wants to get revenge on the jurors as well.

How Trump Could Have Avoided His Current Situation

If you don't want to be held liable for rape, like Donald Trump has, don't grab the woman's genitalia.  Just suppose:

We know that Hamas leaders visited Russia shortly before Hamas attacked Israel. I don't know that Putin planned everything that happened but I expect he encouraged Hamas to attack Israel. He knew that Israel would have an extreme military response to such an action. He knew a war between Palestine and Israel would look bad for Biden who would have to take a stance between the two. If he supported Israel he could lose the support of Middle Eastern Americans, and if he supported Palestine he could lose the support of Jewish Americans. Having the US support two wars is expensive and they would have to choose to support both Ukraine and Israel. We are now seeing this strategy unfold as Biden is losing support from Middle Eastern Americans and Congress has refused to support Ukraine under Trump's direction. Trump has also signaled his support for Putin in both subtle and not-so-subtle ways. Trump has not commented on the assassination of Putin's rival Navalny. Trump has signaled he would dismantle NATO and would definitely not support Ukraine.

 What will a second Trump term look like?

Here are some key points:

1. Trump's most important objective will be to replace the US military leadership with Trump loyalists. Make sure the cabinet are all Trump loyalists and the justice department, vice president, etc. But really once he has loyalists installed in the military he doesn't really need anything else. 

2. Cut funding to Ukraine. This will allow Putin to install a puppet government similar to what is in Belarus. Expect Putin to seek retribution on Ukraine for defying him.

3. Dismantle NATO. Trump said he would do this and he will. This will allow Putin to take over the Baltic states. Other key targets will be Poland and Finland.

4. Seek retribution. Judges, DAs, cities, and states who defied Trump in the past will be targets. Really anyone who voted against him or said anything against him will be targeted. He has talked about weaponizing the justice department and is preparing to do just that. 

5. Trump repeals the ACA and replaces it with...nothing! This is Obama's signature legislation and Trump hates Obama. This legislature has been on his hit list since his first term.
